How long does it take to complete the Medicolegal Death Investigator course?

By Jake

You have access to the Medicolegal Death Investigator course for a full six months. However, most students complete the program in six to eight weeks depending on work-life balance. We recommend that students set aside time each week for course work, this helps to ensure a timely progression through the course material and testing.

Course Access Time

How long do I have access to online courses?

You will have access to all online courses for six months from the date of purchase with the exception of the MDI course, which students have access to for six months from the start date of the course. This, however, does not take into account natural disasters or a major interruption in business.

Can I get an extension for course access?

Individual Course

If you would like to extend your access to an individual course the extension fee is the same as the current course enrollment cost. This will open your course back up to the same location where you had stopped.

Medicolegal Death Investigator Course

If you have not completed your MDI course within the 6-month access period and would like to renew or extend the time you can do that for $300 which will extend your access for another 180 days. This will open your course back up to the same location where you had stopped. You will need to email the request for an extension in order to have an invoice sent to you. and work with student support to get that done. There are no exceptions due to family issues, illness or other student personal issues.

Can I purchase more than one extension?

Students can purchase up to 3 extensions of their course from the date the course initially began. In no case can an extension surpass 24 months from the start date of their course. This is because courses are constantly being updated to make sure the most current information is being given to our students. Depending upon when a student requests an extension, it is possible that an extension would not be possible.

For example: A student enrolls in the MDI course that begins on March 6, 2021 and the course is not completed in the 6 month access period and expires on September 6, 2021. If this student does not request an extension until December 6, 2022, this would extend the course through May 6, 2023, for a total of 26 months from the initial start date of the course. The request for the extension would have to be denied, since extending the course would add 6 months, going beyond the 24 month maximum time allowed. In order for the student to continue the course, the full course enrollment fee would have to be paid.

In contrast, if a student enrolls in the MDI course that begins on March 6, 2021 and the course is not completed in 6 months, if the student requests an extension on September 8, 2021, that extension would be granted once payment is received, extending the course 6 months, through March 8, 2022. If the course is still not completed, another extension could be granted, as long as the extension does not extend the course beyond the 24 month mark.
