Course Access Time
How long do I have access to online courses?
You will have access to all online courses for six months. This, however, does not account for large-scale natural disasters or a significant interruption in our business operations.
Can I get an extension for course access?
Individual Course
If you would like to extend your access to an individual course, the extension fee is the same as the current course enrollment cost, with the exception of the Medicolegal Death Investigator Course. This will extend the expiration date of your course by an additional 6 months. Upon receiving payment for an MDI extension, your course will reappear in your dashboard, and you can continue from the exact location where you had stopped. The MDI course can be extended a maximum of 3 times.
Additionally, the only extensions available are 6-month extensions. There are no options for shorter or longer extensions.
Medicolegal Death Investigator Course
If you have not completed your MDI course within the 6-month access period, you'll find that the course is no longer visible in your dashboard. This applies to all students, and the Academy policy does not permit exceptions for individuals regardless of the circumstances.
Fortunately, if you wish to have your course reopened and continue where you left off, you can request a course extension. Unlike the individual course extension fee, which is the same as the current course enrollment cost, the fee for an extension of an MDI course is $300 per extension. You will need to email a request for an extension to the Student Support team that includes the name, current mailing address and email address of the person the invoice for the extension should be sent to. Provided that it has not been 24 months or more since your course initially began or that an extension will not extend the course beyond the 24-month cutoff period, you will receive an invoice for the extension fee. Once the invoice is paid, an additional 6 months from the date of payment will be added to your course, and you can continue where you left off.
Courses That Began 24 Months or More Ago That Have Expired
Due to the fact that the course is updated regularly in order to keep up with the most current information as well as changes in the laws, the Medicolegal Death Investigators course cannot be renewed or extended if it has been 24 months or more since your MDI session initially began, or if an extension will extend the course end date beyond the 24 month cut off period. The 24 months start from the month and year the course began. For example, if a course began on March 3, 2023, the 24-month cut-off period would be March 3, 2025. Subsequently, if a student enrolled in that course requests an extension on December 13, 2024, that request would be denied, as adding 6 months would make the expiration date June 13, 2025, well beyond the 24-month cut-off period of March 3, 2025. In such cases, students will be required to repurchase the MDI course and start over from the beginning.
Because a majority of students complete the Medicolegal Death Investigator's course in 8 to 10 weeks, it's not common for students to require an extension after 6 months. However, because it's sometimes necessary, we do offer the option.
