Course Access Time

How long do I have access to online courses?

For individual courses, access time is 60 days. For the Medicolegal Death Investigator course, access time is 180 days. For the everything bundle, access time is 365 days. After one year, it is not guaranteed that a course will be available. This, however, does not account for natural disasters or a significant business interruption.

Can I get an extension for course access?

Individual Course

If you would like to extend your access to an individual course, the extension fee is the same as the current course enrollment cost, with the exception of the Medicolegal Death Investigator Course. This will extend your course's expiration date by an additional 6 months. Upon receiving payment for an MDI extension, your course will reappear on your dashboard, and you can continue from the exact location where you left off. The MDI course can be extended up to 3 times, but cannot exceed 24 months from the session's initial start date.

Additionally, the only available extensions are 6 months. There are no options for shorter or longer extensions.

Medicolegal Death Investigator Course

If you have not completed your MDI course within the 6-month access period, the course will no longer be visible in your dashboard. This applies to all students, and the Academy policy does not permit exceptions for individuals regardless of the circumstances.

Fortunately, if you wish to have your course reopened and continue where you left off, you can request a course extension. Unlike the individual course extension fee, which is the same as the current course enrollment cost, the fee for an MDI course extension is $300 per extension. You will need to email a request for an extension to the Student Support team, including the name, current mailing address, and email address of the person the invoice for the extension should be sent to. Provided that it has not been 24 months or more since your course initially began, or that an extension will not extend the course beyond the 24-month cutoff period, you will receive an invoice for the extension fee. Once the invoice is paid, an additional 6 months will be added to your course, and you can continue where you left off.

Courses That Began 24 Months or More Ago That Have Expired

Due to the fact that the course is updated regularly in order to keep up with the most current information as well as changes in the laws, the Medicolegal Death Investigators course cannot be renewed or extended if it has been 24 months or more since your MDI session initially began, or if an extension will extend the course end date beyond the 24 month cut off period. The 24 months start from the month, day, and year the course began. For example, if a course began on March 3, 2023, the 24-month cut-off period would be March 3, 2025. Subsequently, if a student enrolled in that course requests an extension on December 13, 2024, the request would be denied, as adding 6 months would set the expiration date to June 13, 2025, well beyond the 24-month cut-off of March 3, 2025. In such cases, students will be required to repurchase the MDI course and start over.

Because most students complete the Medicolegal Death Investigator's course in 8 to 10 weeks, it's uncommon for students to require an extension after 6 months. However, because it's sometimes necessary, we do offer the option.
